One of the questions asked by a listener on a radio talk show discussing about the challenges of finding a job in Abuja was the issue of being overqualified. An applicant was not successful because he was overqualified for the job he applied for.
Recruiters/hiring managers have varying reasons why they choose not to hire an overqualified applicant
- The hiring manager could be threatened by the applicants work experience or skills.
- The applicant may be bored on the job eventually
- The pay package may not be commensurate to the recruiters budget
Both recruiter and applicant need to rethink ways to approach this and find ways to re-package the area of over-qualification in question so that both parties benefit from it.
To your success!
