The 16 days of activism activities to further engage with the UNiTE Campaign to end violence against women and girls ran from 25th November to the 10th of December. HEIR Women Hub engaged with partners, agencies of government, stakeholders and the citizens to amplify the goal of the campaign as well as achieving her objectives committed to supporting sexual violence interventions through the Kas! Initiative in West Africa.
HEIR Women Hub catalogues of activities and advocacy efforts
1.Involved in a consortium of CSOs championing the push and legislative strategies to solicit support from duty bearers and members of the senate to review and pass the Anti-sexual harassment in tertiary institutions within the 16 Days of Activism timeline. – This bill is now listed in the House of the Senate for review.
2. Participating in a Policy dialogue for SGBV in Tertiary and Workplace curated by the Shehu Musa Yaradua Foundation – the policy dialogue looked into driving ownership of anti-SGBV safeguarding practices across Nigerian Tertiary Institutions
3. Meeting with a group representative for collaborative efforts towards visualising sexual harassment policy for workplace developed by the Nigerian Bar Association Women Forum – with a key interest into the interventions to end sexual harassment at workplaces, a policy document created by the NBA Women Forum and a planned engagement to amplify this policy is underway.
4. Developed an opinion article on behalf of HEIR Women Hub to speak to the theme of the 16 Days of Activism against GBV- articles and opinion pieces on violence and the impacts are shared on the website and social media platforms.
5. Media guest on mainstream platforms to engage listeners on the 16 Days of Activism – The Executive Director spoke on the 16 Days of Activism with a lens into the KASA! 6. A Stakeholders participation on GBV organised by the National Orientation Agency – A forum and a walk across 2 days. – HEIR Women Hub participated in the stakeholder forum and the road walk on the 10th fo December, with the Executive Director speaking as a panellist on the Unite Campaign, Kasa! Initiative and our role in creating sustainable interventions to end sexual harassment at workplaces. Watch here
7. Stakeholders Leading Disability Inclusion in Nigeria and the One-Day hybrid summit for women with disabilities in West Africa- The conference of stakeholders on disability rights to commemorate the 2024 International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) sort to amplify the need for leadership inclusion of persons with disability. The Executive Director, Añuli Aniebo, was a participant, prompting on the need to check on the interventions of sexual harassment and GBV on persons with disability. She also delivered the keynote address at the one-day hybrid summit to further the work on the inclusion of women with disabilities in the mainstream women’s movement.
8. Media advocacy – Social content creation and awareness on the theme. – HEIR Women Hub developed and sensitised the public on sexual harassment prevalence with data and recommendations to re-educate on the impact and identify solutions.
9. The Womanity Index Launch – Invictus Africa utilises data to speak to issues and foster solutions. HEIR Women Hub joined other key stakeholders to engage with the data driven research and to further amplify the relevance of data in the developing of interventions to end GBV.
We recognise that the activities held within the allocated 16 days dies not end there and that the work continues. HEIR Women HUB, continues to work and develop interventions and is currently examining policies for sexual harassment at workplaces with support from the African `Women Development Fund- KASA! Initiative.
